What to expect?
Reveal/Hide Answer
It doesn’t matter whether you receive treatment in your own home or within the Maesteg clinic you will expect the same examination and treatment. If you require the mobile chiropractic services please ensure you have the room for the chiropractic couch around 2.5metres x 1.5 metres. Loose fitting clothes are also advised to help with the physical examination. Here is a brief explanation of each phase of care.
Initial examination
You should allow anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour for the initial examination, which will take form in 2 parts. A case history followed by a focused physical examination. On occasions, additional imaging may be required dependant on the findings.
Report of Findings
The report will only take place when your chiropractor has all the information required, either during the first appointment or at a later date, this is the time where a full explanation of your diagnosis will be conveyed along with your prognosis and a plan to treat the condition.
Treatments
Each treatment will last up to 30 minutes. The number of treatments you require is dependant on multiple factors so this will be generally discussed within the report of findings although you will be constantly reassessed at each appointment.
It is also important to note that you will be required to follow the advice of your chiropractor between appointments to enhance your overall recovery. This will take the form of prescriptive exercise, ice or heat advice and lifestyle advice.
Is chiropractic for me?
Reveal/Hide Answer
Traumatic injuries – whiplash, disc prolapse - obviously require treatment but it is important not to neglect the smaller aches and pains, these can often accumulate and if left untreated can result in increasing discomfort and eventually unmanageable pain – like the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Once this pain has manifested it is not uncommon for people to retrospectively wish that they had sought help sooner. Take note that early prevention is always better than late intervention. The best way to personally assess your eligibility for chiropractic is to question how functionally capable you are. Here are some example activities you may find difficult:
- Sitting comfortably at work
- Driving comfortably
- Exercising
- Sleeping soundly
- Waking up with energy
- Enjoying pregnancy
